About Table Shortlist

Table Shortlist is an independent guide to where to eat, starting with Kansas City on both the Missouri and Kansas sides. Each list is short on purpose: the places we would send a friend, and what to order once you get there.

How we pick

Restaurants are chosen on food, consistency, and how much they say about their city. We weigh national recognition such as James Beard Award nominations, coverage from local critics, and our own visits. We check every list for closures and update it at least every few months.

Rankings are never for sale. Paid placements appear only in boxes marked Sponsored or Advertisement, and they never change the order of a list.
